Junior Years
At Wyndham Central College the Junior School comprises of Years 7 and 8.
Students are supported by their classroom teachers along with the homeroom tutors, the Year Level Leaders, a Junior School Assistant Principal, and a Junior School Administrative Assistant.
Our aim is to prepare students for their years at Wyndham Central and to support them throughout their schooling, culminating in a successful Year 12. At years 7 and 8 we provide a curriculum that focuses on the individual, we give opportunities to succeed in educational outcomes through academic rigour. The curriculum offered is delivered with a focus on academically meeting the requirements of the Victorian Curriculum as well as delivering the vision of the College to ’create a community of high expectations’. At Wyndham Central Secondary College we believe in the values of Respect, Cooperation and Excellence.
We recognise that all people learn differently and we follow Department Policy to ensure all learning needs are catered for. Years 7 and 8 is a time of transition into secondary school and we have a supportive and safe schools environment for children to learn in. We teach the respectful relationships curriculum along with a pastoral care program that caters for academic and emotional needs.
During Years 7 and 8 students will undertake core units in English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Health and PE/sport, plus courses in the Arts and Technology. The LOTE offerings are Spanish, and Japanese. Digitech is addressed in all classes. All of our curriculum is based on the AVID strategies with a very high success rate (see AVID).
Years 7 and 8 cater for all students learning, there are also opportunities for enrichment, Spanish immersion and students with English as an additional language to learn in specific classes.
At Years 7 and 8 we are very proud of our stimulating environments where we all strive to be the very best versions of ourselves that is possible.
